Corsicana, Texas - Wanda Hartley Galaway, age 86, of Corsicana, Texas, passed away on September 5, 2025, in Corsicana.
She was born on May 3, 1939, in Blooming Grove, Texas, to parents Tom and Bonnie Smith. Wanda was a trailblazer in her community, serving as Justice of the Peace in Navarro County from 1989 to 2001, and was proud to be the first woman to hold that office.
In her younger days, Wanda loved gathering with her brothers and sisters for spirited games of dominoes, especially 42, and Wahoo. She was always up for a tournament and cherished those moments of fun and laughter. Wanda had a gift for making others feel welcome—her home was a place where friends and children loved to gather. She was a wonderful cook, known for caring for everyone around her and especially for her famous tacos.
Wanda was married to Tim Hartley, Sr. for 49 years before his passing in 2014. In 2021, she was blessed to find love again and married Nelson Galaway. She enjoyed traveling with Nelson, staying active in her church. She delighted in spoiling her grandchildren, always finding joy in showering them with love and gifts, and treasured every moment with them.
She is survived by her husband, Nelson Galaway; son, Doug Adler and wife Nancy; daughter-in-law, Martha Hartley; brother, Jerry Smith, Sr.; grandchildren: Chelsea Griffith and husband Patrick, Callie Burleson and husband Jeb, and Tristan Hartley; and great-grandchildren: Grace Griffith, Harper Griffith, and Brooke Lynn Burleson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Tim Hartley, Jr.; and siblings Betty Dunn, Roy Smith, Lloyd Smith, Jack Smith, Tommy Smith, Sue Hawthorne, and Paula Hartley.
Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel, officiated by Pastor Paul Denny. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Brown, Jerry Smith, Jr., Curtis Holt, Scott Gorzynski, Matt Dunn and Steve Tidwell.
