Walker Ingram Obituary

Walker Kenneth (Ken) Ingram passed away Tuesday May 9, 2023 and is now rejoicing in heaven with his lovely wife and other loved ones that have passed before him. He was born Sept. 3, 1933 in Kerens, Texas to parents, Walker P. Ingram and Maggie Norris Ingram. A graduate of Kerens High School, he attended Navarro College and Sam Houston State University. He began a career as an IBM operator with East Texas Motor Freight in 1955. Then, he changed fields to office management in 1961 at St. Paul Hospital. He continued this line of work with H. W. Gossard Co. and Dallas Telco Federal Credit Union from which he retired in 1987. After retirement, he turned a lifetime hobby of locksmithing into a livelihood which he owned and operated as "Ken's Lock and Key Service" for many years. You may be one of the lucky ones who's locked car or house he assisted in opening.

On Christmas Day 1953, Walker, or Ken as you may know him, married Bonnie May. Three children were born of this union: Kenneth Wayne on Sept. 15, 1957, Karon Gay on Feb. 2, 1961 and Karla Jean on Jan. 21, 1969. These children were the joy of his life. He enjoyed their school activities and even became a Boy Scout leader. He attended all of their band performances and dance recitals. The couple raised their family in Dallas, Texas until retirement at which point they moved back to Kerens. Ken was always an active member in his church. His favorite activities were counting those pennies at Vacation Bible School and passing out candy at the Trunk or Treat festivals. Although he loved the culture of Kerens, from the Homecomings to the Cotton Festivals, he loved the people more; Visiting with them, teasing with them, having coffee with them, and occasionally manipulating them into buying his coffee. You may be one of those lucky people, too. His other passion was photography. He carried multiple cameras to every occasion looking for that perfect shot. That's why the family doesn't have many photos of him because he was always taking pictures. We always relied on him getting the family or event pics. Now what will we do?

Ken was a character. He was a jokester. He made people laugh and everyone that he met loved him. He loved his Lord and loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Janie and Mike Ever-heart and numerous nieces and nephews; 3 children and their spouses, Wayne Ingram, Karon and Steve Purcell, and Karla and Doug Watson; 9 grandchildren, Addison Wootton and spouse Claire, Taylor Wootton-Tauer and spouse Andrew, Carter Wootton, Autumn Purcell, Grace Purcell, Scott Ingram, Stephanie Ingram, Travis Watson and spouse, Samantha and Tyler Watson and spouse, Ashley; and 5 great-grandchildren, Cole Wootton, Anne Wootton, Olivia Tauer, Ella Watson and Chloe Watson.

If you have ever watched the movie, " It's a Wonderful Life" with James Stewart, you have probably wondered if the world would be different without you. Ken had a way of changing one's perspective, their thoughts, and their mood. The world was a better place because of Ken and he will be deeply missed.

The pallbearers are Travis Watson, Tyler Watson, Addison Wootton, Andrew Tauer, Grace Purcell and Autumn Purcell.
