His distinguished career spanned clinical chaplaincy, groundbreaking addiction treatment, federal healthcare consultation, and international hospital administration.

Key Professional Achievements

Clinical & Pastoral Foundations: Served Texas congregations while earning degrees from Southwestern University, Del Mar College, Texas Lutheran, and an accelerated Bachelor of Divinity from SMU Perkins School of Theology.

Pioneering Author (1965): Published the nationwide acclaimed book, Understanding and Helping the Narcotic Addict, a first-of-its-kind guide for clergy handling complex dependency issues.

Federal Consultation: Selected by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to consult at St. Elizabeths Hospital (D.C.) and strategically redirect the NIMH Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

Tommie is survived by sisters, Gelene Simpson, Geneva & Bill Davis, his son Tommie Joe Duncan and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends across the world.
