Steven B. Nesmith, 67, went to the big watermelon patch in the sky on April 3, 2022, at home in Dawson, Texas with his loved ones.
He was born on February 15, 1955, in Corsicana, Texas, to William Olin "Punk" and Jo Delle Nesmith.
Steven grew up in Dawson and attended school at Dawson ISD until he graduated Salutatorian of the Class of '73. He loved his community so much that he would go on to raise a family and serve the town of Dawson when called upon. In his lifetime he would serve as Fire Chief of the Dawson Volunteer Fire Department, a School Board member, and a member of the Dawson Masonic Lodge #155 for 45 years. When asked about his notable achievements, Steven replied, "Yet to be determined."
He married Cheri Brumble in 1981 and they had two children, Cody and Carson.
He worked in the construction industry for a total of 50 plus years, and part time/full time for the United States Postal Service for 34 years. When asked about his work history he stated, "I worked all my life until I couldn't no more."
Steven is survived by his wife Cheri of over 40 years, sons Cody and Carson, daughter-in-law Ashleigh of Dawson. Three amazing grandchildren Hannah and Emily, daughters of Cody and Jameson Brit, son of Carson and Ashleigh. His Brothers, Dan and Kenneth "Dean", sister in law Alicia, wife of Kenneth. Nieces and Nephews Danielle and Kevin Orr, Dylan, Garrett and Blake Nesmith all of Dawson. Ted and Doris Brumble of Tyler, parents of Cheri. P.L. Disinger of Houston, aunt of Cheri. Leslie and Greg Green, children Brooks, Cooper, and Palmer of Washington and many other friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, many friends and relatives. Along with "quite a few partners that beat him there."
There will be a memorial service held at Wade Funeral Home in Hubbard, Texas on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 3 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Priddy, Brian Prater, San Davis, Craig White, Jeffrey Ganze, Avery Bruce, James Maass and Dennis Shifflett.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to the charity of your choosing be made in Steven's honor.
