Shivaun Lynn Kent went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior on February 19, 2025 after a decade long battle with cancer. She lived her life devoted to Christ, and lived as an awesome example of a Godly woman, always pointing people to Jesus, especially her family. We can have peace in the knowledge that upon her arrival in Heaven she heard "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Shivaun was born to Bob and Lee Ann Mims on January 17, 1957 in New Iberia, LA. In her early years she would call Buffalo, TX home, and attended Buffalo schools before completing a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Texas at Tyler. She taught school for thirty-four years, the majority of which with Kerens ISD, where she enriched the lives of many children and made many lifelong friendships.
Her greatest joy, though, was being a mom and a nana. She never missed any of her children's or grandchildren's activities and was their biggest supporter. You could always count on her for a hug or chocolate chip cookie from her kitchen. She was her daughter's best friend and would chat with her every morning like they were just down the road from one another and not thousands of miles apart. As her son would always say, "If I needed a pencil while I was in college, my mom would've driven from Kerens to College Station to give me one", and he wasn't wrong. That was the kind of person she was and she will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert A. Mims, and is survived by her husband of forty years, Will Kent of Kerens, TX, and their two children: son Andrew Kent and his wife Mary of Mildred, TX, and daughter Adlee Winkelman and her husband Curtis of Keizer, OR. She was the proudest Nana of six grandchildren whom she adored with every heartbeat: Kinsley, McCoy, Taytum, Hayden, Jack, and Quinn. She is also survived by her mother, Lee Ann Mims of Buffalo,
TX, and her sisters: Dixie Brewer, Rhonda Bangs, and Hanida Oliver, all of Buffalo, TX, and many nieces and nephews.
The family thanks everyone for their prayers and well-wishes during this temporary time of loss, but as 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 says, "But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep."
There will be a visitation Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Paschal Funeral Home in Kerens, TX from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be Monday, February 24, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Kerens at 2:00 PM, with a graveside to follow at Kerens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to First Baptist Church of Kerens, or the charity of your choice.
