Corsicana - Rochelle Stillman Joseph, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024.

The funeral was Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana, followed by burial in the Hebrew Cemetery near her late husband, Rabbi Ernest Joseph, and her sister, Shirley Stillman.

Rochelle was a stalwart supporter of her children and their spouses, and a devoted grandmother and great grandmother.

She was a proud and active member of her son's congregations, Irving Havurah and Havurah Corsicana. She loved to read, kept up with current affairs, and was an outspoken advocate for issues and candidates she supported. She loved a good conversation and enjoyed making calls for her congregations. She was always happy to talk with anyone she met.

She graduated from North Texas Agricultural College, now The University of Texas at Arlington, at a time when most women did not attend college.

She married Ernest Joseph, a German war refugee, whom she met at an Orthodox synagogue in Dallas in 1950. They settled in Corsicana, where Ernest ultimately served as rabbi for more than 30 years until his death in 1999.

Rochelle's kindness, her keen mind, and her unabashed love for family made her universally beloved. She was a woman of valor, and she will be missed. Her memory will always be a wonderful blessing.

Rochelle was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rabbi Earnest Joseph, and her sister, Shirley Stillman.

She is survived by her children, Clarice Joseph Jackson; Jacob "Jake" Joseph; Julie Joseph; Rabbi Frank Joseph and wife, Laurie; Victor Joseph and wife, Sonya; Harvey Joseph and wife, Dasha; and by her grandchildren, Becca Chustz and husband Brandon; Brittany Waldman and husband Ari,; Samantha Pope; Miranda Valerio and husband Jose; Sabiyah Salem; and by her great-grandchildren, Lyan and Peyton Chustz; Ela, Liora, and Max Waldman; Benjamin and Evelyn Villarreal; Remy Valerio; and by her beloved caretaker, Krystal Stephens, and Krystal's daughter, Journey.
