Norman  Summers
Norman Ray Summers, 92, of Temple and formerly of Dawson, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 in Temple.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with Rev. Jake Wade and Rev. Brad Brittain officiating. Interment will follow in Dawson Cemetery.
Norman was born Aug. 24, 1927 in Cockrell Hill to John Franklin Summers and Maude Gertrude (Bailey) Summers. Norman had lived in Temple for the past two years but prior to moving to Temple had been a longtime resident of Dawson where he was very active in the community and church affairs.
He had worked for the postal service for 38 years and also sold real estate for 20 years.
Norman was the P.A. announcer for 21 years at the Dawson football games as well as the longtime auctioneer for the Lord's Acre Festival at First United Methodist Church of Dawson where he was a faithful member for many years. He was also a Mason, Lions Club member, member of the Dawson Bulldogs Booster Club and a WWII Army veteran where he served in the 188th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ray Summers; a brother, Howell Summers and a sister, Loveta Robertson.
Survivors include his wife, Alta "Bobbie" (West) Summers of Temple; daughter, Kay Langford and husband, Walter of Temple; two grandsons, Aaron Langford and wife, Lindsay and their son, Tyler of Georgetown and Micah Langford and wife, Ciara of Dallas; nephew, Mickey Adler of Dawson and numerous friends.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Langford, Micah Langford, Cooper Williams, Jeremy Williams, Jackie Freeland and Alex Morris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mickey Adler, Bill Turner, Dwain Spruiell, Don Spruiell, George Fawcett, Ronnie Woodall and Tim Sanders.
