Nelda June Neal Obituary

Nelda June Neal, 91, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025, at The Village of Heritage Oaks in Corsicana. Nelda was born on November 25, 1933, in Union High, Texas, the only child born to LaRue Bennett Jordan and Merl Jordan. Nelda grew up in and around Corsicana Texas in her early years and resided in Corsicana her entire adult life. Nelda met the love of her life, Franklin Delano Neal, in March of 1953. It was truly love at first sight as she married Franklin on April 24, 1954, while he was on leave from the Military. Nelda and Franklin couldn't wait to start their life together upon Franklin's return from Okinawa April 23, 1955.

Nelda worked at Bethlehem Steel Company as a young adult and more importantly Nelda served as the "City Secretary" of Corsicana, Texas for 40 Years! Nelda was a perfectionist that kept immaculate City records and was involved in many City Government Decisions over the years. Nelda loved her job and particularly loved the interactions with numerous City employees, Mayors, City Councilmen, and City Managers throughout her 40-year career. Nelda was a true champion for Corsicana residents and all the great things Corsicana had to offer families. She retired in 1998 completing a lifelong legacy of passion and treating everyone she met with total respect, compassion, and kindness.

Nelda loved God, Franklin, and her family most, followed by cooking and celebrating the numerous family birthdays throughout the year! She also loved attending 2nd Avenue Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member for many many years. She served the Lord as a Sunday School and BTC Teacher for Kids for many years at Union High Baptist Church and 2nd Ave. Thanksgiving Dinner was always a highlight of Nelda's year where everyone was welcome.......... Literally everyone! There was always massive amounts of food and many laughs and good times to go round. Nelda was an exceptional cook that loved chocolate fudge at Christmas and "Biscuits & Gravy" any day of the year (day or night). She spent countless hours over the years with Franklin at the farm, looking over the cattle and enjoying the beauty of nature and the animals (even the Donkeys). After retirement, the Farm was one of Nelda and Franklin's favorite places to hang out and enjoy life with family and friends!

Nelda always enjoyed socializing with the Ladies Auxiliary of 2nd Ave Baptist Church and her friends who were members of the Corsicana Chapter 118 order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron and several other offices over the years.

Nelda was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Left to cherish Nelda's memory are her son Danny Franklin Neal and wife Nancy of Corsicana, Texas and her daughter Carla Barber and husband Cliff of Spring, Texas. She is survived by grandsons Daniel Neal of Dallas, Jonathon Neal and wife Erica of Corsicana, Nicholas Neal and Paige Sirmon of Dallas, and Drew Cain and wife Jennifer of College Station. She is also survived by granddaughters Carly Neal of New York, Mikala Evans of Corsicana, and Jill Cain and Merritt LaFoe of Denver and three great grandsons, Jackson Cain and Owen Cain of College Station, and Franklin Neal (Frankie) of Corsicana.

Nelda was also loved from afar by her four bonus granddaughters, their husbands, and her eight great grandchildren from Spring.

Nelda had a special place in her heart for Jackie H (#1), Jackie C (#2), and Juanita H. who provided special care and kindness to her throughout her last year of life. Nelda cared for them dearly.
