Martha Bain, 89 of Kerens went to be with the Lord on Oct. 3, 2021. She was born January 5, 1932 to Jack and Catherine McCullough in McKinney, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.A.(Bub) Bain, her parents, Jack and Catherine McCullough and her daughter, Laurie Bain Haynes. She is survived by her sons, Bobby Bain and wife Kay, and Clay Bain and wife Laurie Ann. Other survivors are her grandchildren, Mary Katherine Holt Wilbanks, Terry Haynes, Season Bain Sayles, Shelby Bain Lancaster, Grace Bain and Eli Bain. She is also survived by her sister Kay Hjartberg and husband Pierre from New Orleans, and several nieces and nephews.
Martha was a member of the First Baptist Church Kerens for almost 70 years, serving as a GA sponsor, Training Union teacher, and Sunday School teacher for many years, impacting the lives of many young girls. After raising her children, Martha attended nursing school and became a R.N. at the age of 49. She used her nursing skills for many years as her husband's primary caregiver.
Martha loved her family and friends. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, and shopping. She looked forward to frequent coffee breaks with her friends around her kitchen table, and she made her home warm and inviting for the many friends and visitors she welcomed through its doors. Children and teenagers spent many summers swimming in the backyard pool and enjoyed snacks (favorite: Kraft macaroni and cheese) she graciously prepared for them. Martha was funny, had a great sense of humor and was an excellent storyteller...which made it fun to be in her presence.
She was very active in her community, always delivering food baskets to families new to Kerens. She honored her God given gift of hospitality by thousands of gestures of kindness throughout her life: cards, phone calls, visits, casseroles, and simple words of encouragement. She was an inspiration and a mentor to many by example. Martha made an impact on everyone she met and truly invested herself in the lives of others.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 6th from 5-7 p.m. at Paschal Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at First Baptist Church Kerens at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7th with Bro. Danny Sandifer officiating. Pallbearers will be Kip Whorton, Russ Crawford, Buster Atkeisson, Norton Conner, Coy Lancaster and Shelton Sayles. Honorary Pallbearer, Don Paschal. Burial will follow in the Kerens Cemetery.
