Corsicana - Lester Eugene McGary Jr (98) passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Born in 1927 in Madison, Wisconsin, he was the middle of three children. His last year at the University of Wisconsin Medical School he married Mary Joanne Miller, graduated, and entered the Urology Residency Program at Madison General Hospital.

He served in the Air Force during the last years of the Korean War and as a flight surgeon from 1954 to 1957. In 1957, he moved to Corsicana, Texas where he became a partner in The Navarro Clinic and Hospital. In 1961 he entered solo practice in the same community.

Lester was a member of the Southern Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, and the Navarro County Medical Society where he served one year as President. He was also Chief of Staff at the Navarro County Hospital.

As his medical practice grew, Lester still found time for civic affairs. He served two years as a city commissioner, twelve years as a member and Chairman of the Tax Equalization Board, ten years as a medical consultant for the Texas Vocational Rehabilitation Service, and one year for the Governor's Citizens Advisory Committee for Prison Reform.

He retired from active medical practice in 1983 and became an avid stock market investor while sharing with his many friends his computer skills, his immense generosity, and hosting countless parties.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14th, at 11:00 AM at the Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, 1530 North 45th Street, Corsicana, Texas, 75110, followed by a party at his home to celebrate his life. 1004 N. 29th St., Corsicana.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the GenealogyDepartment of the Corsicana Public Library, or to the Flower Fund at the First Methodist Church in Corsicana.
