Lawrence E. "Buddy" Black, Jr., of Purdon, passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, March 23, 2019 surrounded by his family. Buddy was born in Groom to Lawrence E. Black, Sr. and Clora B. Shockley Black on April 23, 1931.

Buddy married Maye Black in Portales, New Mexico on July 21, 1951. They spent the next 60 years raising their five children, building a business together, and making memories with a large, loving family.

For the past 31 years Buddy lived on the same land in Purdon. He enjoyed raising cattle, and other livestock as well as working "down back" constantly making improvements to his land.

Buddy is survived by his children and their spouses, Eddie and Anita Black of Emhouse, Dale Black of Corsicana, Kathie and Randy Porter of Corsicana, Kristi and Danny Guerra of Purdon and a daughter-in-law and her husband, Sue and Brad Hornung of Wichita, Kansas; his grandchildren, Lisa and Jason Lamb, Casey Black, Josh and Maggie Black, Lawrence Ryan and Christin Black, Jessica and Carl Cason, Jennifer and Trey Rutschman, Nichole Black, Cody Black, Kirsten and Blake Funderburk, Matthew and Ashley Porter, Cory Porter and Haleigh Guerra; 34 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and countless other friends who were always welcome in his home.

Buddy was met at the gates of heaven by his loving wife Maye, and his son, Lawrence Dean Black.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Wade Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Josh Black officiating. Interment to follow at Younger Cemetery near Purdon.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Black, Casey Black, Ryan Black, Blake Funderburk, Carl Cason, Trey Rutschman, Cody Black, and Cory Porter. Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandsons.
