Kenneth G. Johnston Obituary

Kenneth G. Johnston passed away May 23, 2021 with his family at his side in Corsicana, Texas. Kenneth was born February 15, 1934 to Ollin and Milton Johnston in Powell, Texas. He graduated from Kerens High School, Navarro College, the University of North Texas (then North Texas State Teachers College). He later received his Masters from Baylor University, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Arizona.

He was in the National Guard at Fort Seal, Oklahoma when Navarro College contacted him to come teach math. His career at Navarro spanned over 20 years. He continued his career at Trinity Valley College for the next 20 years, teaching math there also, and often teaching night courses at the prison system. He ended his teaching career as an adjunct teaching college algebra.

Kenneth always had other jobs simultaneously to his teaching. He was a homebuilder; building over 600 homes in Corsicana, many of them custom. Ranching was another of his loves, not to mention going to cattle auctions and hay baling.

He was one of the charter members of the Corsicana Jaynees and at one time, president of the Corsicana Kiwanis Club.

None of the above compared to his love for his daughter and three granddaughters. He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Carter, granddaughters, Mackenzie Irvin, Claire Irvin, and Anna Carter, sister Karen Bush, sister-in-law, Anita Johnston, sister-in-law, Diane Stephens, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and former wife, Neva Johnston. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kerens.

The service was held at Paschal Funeral Home in Kerens, Thursday, May 27th at 11am with visitation before the service. Burial followed in the Kerens City Cemetery following. Pallbearers will be: Mark Barnes, Charlie Bush, Robert Bush Jr., Clay Jackson, Kyle Johnston, Sid Johnston, Wade Stephens, and Ken Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Nathan Estell and Harold McCord.

The family wishes to thank all of his amazing Doctors, nurses and caregivers that took such awesome care of him over the last few years. Dr. Agarwal, Carrie Self, and Edie Prichett Smith all with Texas Oncology Corsicana, Dr. Shawkat Shafik, Nana Herod and New Century Hospice, Lonna Gibbs, Emily Fortson, Kim Hayes and Navarro Regional Hospital. He loved them all.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Johnston's name to the American Cancer Society, the Kerens Library, the Navarro College Foundation, or charity of your choice.
