Corsicana - John Edmond McClung lll, born on December 13, 1943, in Ft. Worth, Texas, and adopted by the late Gerald O. and Elizabeth (Park) McClung, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024, in Corsicana, Texas.
John was raised on a farm in Retreat, Texas, his father an engineer and his mother a teacher. In school, he was known as a jokester and prankster. John was involved in The Boy Scouts, 4H, and school activities. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1962. He went on to attend Texas A&M University, where he was a proud member of the Aggie band, playing the trumpet. He loved Aggie sports, especially football. As an adult, he played soccer and was a coach and a referee.
A man of many talents, John was an accomplished songwriter, grillmaster, storyteller, and salesman. His professional career was diverse and impactful. He joined Revere Copper and Brass in 1969 as a copper tube salesman in Tulsa, OK. In 1974 he began with Vestal Laboratories, selling industrial cleaning supplies to Northeast Oklahoma, where he honed his sales skills. John's career flourished at Hasty Bake, when he joined in 1993 as the National Sales Manager. He traveled around the country and not only sold grills to several notable celebrities, but also appeared on the Today Show, QVC, and hosted multiple charity events. He retired from Hasty Bake in 2014.
John had a connection to so many people and gave so much time and effort to helping others. He was a part of countless organizations and touched many lives. He was a devoted member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Tulsa, serving as Junior Warden and leading a project to build a columbarium. Returning to Corsicana in 2003, he dedicated his efforts to his church and his hometown, volunteering with Habit for Humanity, and serving on city council from 2011 to 2019.
John is survived by his loving family: his son, Chris McClung, his daughter, Carin Palmer, and her husband, Jason; and his three cherished grandchildren, Jake McClung Palmer, Jordan Palmer, and Andrew Palmer.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Corsicana.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, humor, hard work and dedication will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
