Corsicana, Texas - JOHN STANLEY LAWHON passed away on (Tues Oct 14, 2025) at the age of (76). Stan was born July 31,1949. He lived in Corsicana, Texas his entire life..

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Corsicana, and later in life attended First Methodist Church. Stan graduated from Corsicana High School in 1968, and went on to attend Navarro College. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard of Texas and served for 7 years.

Stan had a love for baseball he acquired from his dad. His father was a youth baseball coach and taught him how to bat left-handed, even though he was right handed. Stan's father passed away when he was 12 years old. Stan played baseball and softball for many years, and later became a coach himself. He coached both Little League and teenage League, where he was able to coach all three of his own sons.

Stan had a love of cars, especially race cars. He was a member of the Corsicana Bracket racers. He built his own drag racer and raced it for several years.

Stan loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a well known fishing guide on Richland Chambers Lake for many years. He was also a member of the Corsicana Bass Club for many years, where he became a recognized tournament fisherman. He fished both competitive and pro series tournaments over the years. In addition he wrote articles for "Honey Hole" Fishing Magazine and appeared on their televised show several times.

One of Stan's favorite places was the Texas Hill country, especially Llano, Texas, where he hunted on the same lease for over 56 years. He loved to bow hunt and spend time there with many of his life long friends. He even wrote a song called "Let's Go to Llano.

Later in life Stan revisited his love of music. Almost 40 years after playing in his high school rock band. He started writing his own songs and performing around Navarro County. He eventually wrote and released four full albums. His craft for songwriting and music was a special gift. He later passed on to many other family members who pursued careers in music.

In addition to his guide service, Stan worked at Corsicana ISD. He retired from Corsicana ISD after 25 years of service.


Stan is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Brenda Raley Lawhon.

Sons: John Michael Lawhon & wife Rose, Toby Lynn Lawhon & wife Geneva, Colt Edwin Lawhon & wife Emily.

Grandchildren: Brittnie Lawhon Gardner & husband Logan, Alyssa Lawhon Bain,

London Lawhon Brown & husband Coulter, Ryder Lawhon & Payton Templeton, and Colt Thomas Lawhon.

Great Grandchildren: Hudson Gardner, Isla Gardner, Finley Gardner, Beckett Gardner, Oliver Brown, Atlas Bain.

Stan was preceded in death by his father J.E. Lawhon, mother Doloras Tuck Lawhon & Great Granddaughter Violet Gardner.


Memorial: Ceremony of Life will be Sunday December 14th, at First Methodist Church of Corsicana, in "The Current" Sanctuary from 3-5pm.
