James Granvell Roberts, Sr., 72, of Corsicana, Tx., passed away Friday, March 10, 2021 at Twilight Nursing Home. Born February 7, 1949 in Corsicana, TX. His first job was working at the Oil City. He later went on to Corsicana Daily Sun for 29 years as Head Foreman and Manager over the printing Department until he retired. James, Sr., furthered his employment at the Corsicana Independent School District as a maintenance Operator for 12 years, where he retired. James, Sr., loved all children. He started coaching his brother at the YMCA, and later was a coach for the National Black Baseball Team.
James was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served faithfully as chairman of the Deacons, President of the Brotherhood and Usher Departments.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. Carter and Birtha J. Roberts Johnson; son, Horace Roberts; granddaughter, Alexis Roberts; brothers, Christopher "Terry" Spears and Joseph Carter.
James Sr. leaves to cherish his memories: Wife of 22 years, Elaine Roberts; Children, Rotonda Roberts of Dallas TX, James Roberts Jr. (Sherrie), of Desoto, TX., Kelton Roberts, (Felicia) of Arlington TX., Shatika Davis (Sydney) of Glenn Heights, TX., Stephanie McDonald of Desoto, TX., Booker T. McDonald of Arlington, TX., step-mother, Wanda Carter of Ft. Worth, TX., Extended Children; Latonya Smith, LuraSha Roberts, Walter Lewis, Terrance Lewis, Terry Johnson, Kevin Johnson, and Raphael Roberts; 27 grandchildren; 1 great grandson, Sisters, Linda Green, of Phoenix, AZ., Rhonda Nelson (William) Cheryl Childs (Rufus) all of Dallas, TX., Alana Carter of Crowley, TX., Gretta Carter of Longview, TX., brothers, Pastor Dairy G. Johnson, Sr. (Ellender) and Rickey W. Roberts, Sr. (Laurena) all of Corsicana, TX., Michael Carter, Ft. Worth, TX., Gregory Carter, Sr., (Sharron) of Mesquite, TX., and Byron Carter, Sr.(Linda) of Manvel, TX., a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and the Bethlehem Baptist Church Family.
Services for James Roberts, Sr., are Saturday, March 27th at 11 a.m. at Northside Baptist Church, 2800 N. Beaton, Corsicana, Texas with Pastor Dairy G. Johnson, Sr., officiating. Interment to follow at Woodland Memorial Park.
