Frank Hamilton Massey Obituary

Frank Hamilton Massey was called to his eternal rest on Sunday, January 2, 2022. He was born in Kerens, Texas on September 26, 1941, just a few months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was 80 years old. He farmed and ranched for many years and ran a feed store, Massey Feed & Seed. He loved his hometown and never wanted to leave. He was proud of his children who served in the US Navy. He loved the domino games with many of the seniors in Kerens.

He is survived by his children from his first marriage to Lovie Ann Dickinson: Frank Massey (Navy), Amanda Massey (Navy) and Dr. Rachel Massey (Navy). He is also survived by the mother of his second family, Darla Gaye Pate Crawford, and their children Chance Massey (Navy) and his wife Staci, Matthew Massey, Krystle Massey and Taylor Massey. He is survived by 9 grandchildren: Ava, Easton, Elijah, Alivyah, Noah, Madilynn, Kyndall, Kinsley and Klaycee. He is also survived by his sister Dr. Brenda and her husband James Gilliland; his sister Bonnie and her husband Ross Zinnante; and his sister Darla and her husband Robert Regner. He had 4 nieces and nephews.

Frank was a man who lived simply, was unassuming, and had many friends throughout his life. He loved all his children. Unknown to many, he was descended from 10 proven soldiers and patriots of the Revolutionary War by the Daughters of the American Revolution. His family, on both sides, were early arrivals in America, many arriving in 1635-36. Drawing on that heritage, he fought valiantly for nearly 20 years against kidney disease and survived for most of those years on dialysis. During that time, he remained positive and was seldom known to complain about his condition. He worked until his health deteriorated to the point that he could not continue.

Frank loved gardening and was a walking encyclopedia of ways and means of taking care of crops and gardens. He enjoyed taking produce from his garden to the folks at the dialysis clinic as a means of thank you to them. Frank had a special love for his little dogs. Little Bit was absolutely a part of his life even when in the Nursing home. A special thanks to his children for taking care of Little Bit and bringing her for visits.

Burial will be in the Kerens Cemetery beside his parents, Frank B. (Pete) and Elnora Massey.

Visitation and viewing will be at Paschal Funeral Home from 4 to 7 on Thursday, January 6, 2022 and graveside service and burial on Friday, January 7, at 1 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation whose research and assistance to kidney patients makes life easier and better.
