Ferrell Smithey Obituary

Frost, Texas - Ferrell Smithey was born February 28, 1933 five miles south of Frost in a place called Jones Ranch. A servant of the Lord, he was saved and baptized in Mill Creek at an early age.At 17, he went to work in the Frost Cotton Gin. In 1951, he began working at Chance Vault Aircraft in Grand Prairie where he remained until May of 1953 before leaving for service in Korea as a military policeman. After being honorably discharged from the Army in April of 1955, Ferrell began a 25-year public service career working for the Dallas Fire Department alongside brave men whom he forged a lifetime friendship. In 1959, he married Brenda Smithey in Dallas. They relocated closer to Frost, allowing Ferrell to raise cattle, cotton, wheat, and maize with his brother, Don, for nearly 30 years on the Smithey Brothers' Farm and Ranch. Ferrell's remarkable work ethic is one of his most definitive attributes. He knew the value of hard work, and he knew the value of a dollar. Humble, patient, sharp-witted, and dedicated, it is certain that everyone who knew him can readily recall a particular moment they shared with Ferrell, and agree, that these characteristics defined him. Although he himself described his formative schooling career as measured due to circumstances related to his era, his children describe him as the most intelligent man they have ever known. Dad was the greatest dad and "Paw Paw" to all of our family. He was preceded in death by father, Arthur Smithey, mother, Naomi (Hill) Smithey, four brothers, Hessell, Don, Myrl, and Darrell (Zeke) Smithey, and two sisters, Nancy Gordon and Lynette Choate. He is survived by wife Brenda (Ammons) Smithey, sons Michael and Jason Smithey, daughter Robin Frank, seven grandchildren (April, Melissa, Trevor, Austin, Travis, Emma and Justin), and 3 great grandchildren (Ava, Wrenley and Summer). Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at the Central Baptist Church in Italy from 1-2 P.M. A Funeral Service will follow at 2 P.M. with Pastor Joseph Barrett officiating. Interment will follow at the Frost Cemetery.
