Donald Wayne Corley was born on October 31, 1931, in Milford, TX to Victor and Nora Corley.

Milford during those days was a small farming community 20 miles southwest of Waxahachie, TX. The 2020 census for Milford shows it to still be exactly that; a small, close-nit farming community with a population of only 722. Humble beginnings for what would become a steady, trustworthy, humble man who was raised in a believing, practicing Christian family.

By the time Don was about 8 years old, the family had moved off the farm into Waxahachie, TX where the family income would be supported by the ownership and operation of full-service gasoline stations. Don grew up working in the shop alongside his father doing all types of service station work through the years of the Great Depression and World War II. He would often talk about those years of hardship, war time ration cards for rubber tires, fuel, and other items that were in short supply. The level of integrity and honesty displayed by his father towards customers and to the government during the war years had a lasting impression and helped solidify Don's own values and integrity.

Don attended Waxahachie High School graduating in 1950. He was a star athlete in football, track and field sports. He was the much talked about hard running, hard hitting half-back and free safety wearing jersey number 21. He said that his best time in the 100-yard sprint event was 10 seconds flat! A fleet foot even by today's standards. He was also a good student that made good grades and never had an absence. These qualities would serve him well later in college studies.

Upon graduating from High School, Don enrolled at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX. There he became a member of a group of students now known as the "Barracks Bunch" whose dormitory were former Quonset Hut barracks left over from WWII war years when the campus was a primary flight training camp for the US Army Air Corps. Most importantly, he met his future wife and our mom Nelda (Stiles) Corley from Pursely, TX. They quickly became enamored with each other and fell in love.

War would come again with the outbreak of the Korean Conflict. Instead of waiting for the draft board to call his number up, Don enlisted in the US Army in 1952. He attended basic training at Fort Bliss, TX serving in an anti-aircraft battery. After completing basic training, he returned to Corsicana and married on April 6, 1953. He was posted to serve the remainder of his enlistment to the Panama Canal Zone along with mom until he separated from active duty in 1954.

In the years that followed military service Don studied finance at North Texas Teacher College (now University of North Texas) in Denton, TX graduating with B.S and Masters degree in 1958, employment with GMAC Dallas, TX, the birth of their first child in 1962, then moving in 1964 and residing in Corsicana, TX followed by more children in 1966 and 1972.

Don passed away during the early morning hours of June 14, 2023 where he was in assisted rehabilitation therapy in Keller TX after suffering complications stemming from past heart surgeries.

He is preceded in death by his wife Nelda Corley and daughter Sandy Corley.

He is survived by son Mike Corley and wife Iris Corley with grand and great grandchildren Daniel Corley, Adrianna Corley, Grayson Lytle, Aria Lytle. His son Jay Corley, wife Sundee Corley, grandchildren Kristofer Corley and Shianne Corley, and extended family of four granddaughters, their husbands and eight great grandchildren.

Our dad, Don, Papaw, "DC" left a legacy and an indelible mark with many recent and past memories on our family that will never be forgotten. He will continue to guide us and help us navigate our lives for the time we all have left. For his life, he has received the highest recognition of all when he heard, "Well done good and faithful servant" when he arrived in his forever Heaven home.
