Corsicana - December 24, 1930 - January 10, 2024
Our beloved mother Dolores Marie (Little) Schriefer of Corsicana, Texas, returned to the Lord on January 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at home. She was born on December 24, 1930, to Antonetta "Sadie" (Pillitteri) and John Anthony Little in Erie, Pennsylvania. Our mother's faith-inspired, bright, guiding light shined on her family and friends for 93 years. While we will miss her light greatly here on earth, we are comforted in knowing that she will be the first light to greet us when we each make our journey Home.
Dolores was the eldest of three children who were baptized into the faith community of Saint Paul Catholic Church located within steps of her family home. Her devotion to attending daily mass as a child shaped her lifelong mission to grow in faith and service to her community.
Our mother's bright spirit benefitted family and church communities wherever her husband's career path led them, beginning in Erie, Pennsylvania, and continuing to Lexington, Kentucky, then west to the Los Angeles suburbs of Thousand Oaks and Los Alamitos, California, and finally to Corsicana, Texas in 1970.
Our mother's life was filled with faith and family, love, guidance and service to her community. Her devotion to her family has left a loving legacy that will continue to guide us.
Dolores will be remembered for hosting large family gatherings on holidays when she cooked Italian feasts, a tradition from her childhood that she lovingly passed on to her family. She also enjoyed hosting special events and gatherings for family and friends, always making the guest of honor feel loved and supported.
Serving as parish secretary for 19 years at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Corsicana, she also volunteered for Our Lady's Altar Society, as a sacristan for the Priest, with Meals on Wheels and in the community with the Food Pantry. Hobbies and interests included reading, bowling, bridge, bunco, golf and poker with her extended groups of friends.
Dolores was blessed to travel extensively in retirement. At the age of 82, she walked 100+ miles of the Camino (The Way), a religious experience in Spain, with her son, daughter in law and granddaughter. She toured her ancestral homeland of Southern Italy, attended her granddaughter's wedding in Barcelona followed by a trip to England with her daughters and their husbands. She journeyed to the Holy Land with fellow parishioners led by Father Jason Cargo, and toured Ireland with her daughters.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alfred Richard Schriefer, her parents, her brother Charles Anthony "Boots" Little, sisters-in-law Barbara Little and Sandee Little, niece Melanie Cadden and several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by her children Mark Schriefer of Dallas, Kurt (Robin) Schriefer of Plano, Richard (Laurel) Schriefer of Dallas, Amy (David) Rose of Midlothian, Mary (Johnny) Gorden of Plano; grandchildren Sabrina Schriefer, Erin (Hayden) Hodges, Eric (Mari Bryn) Dowdy, Ashley (David) Flaumenhaft, Cullen Schriefer, Sarah (Garrett) McLearen, Kristen (Stephen) Sanders, Amanda Cunningham, William (Kayla) Cunningham, Allison (Brody) Newland, Jeremy (Lyndsey) Rose, Travis (Candace) Rose, Cheyenne Rose, Megan Gorden and Meredith (Austin) Burton, along with 22 great grandchildren; her brother Ronald (Kathy) Little of Erie, PA and a number of special nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Wednesday from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Corley Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Father Juan Carlos officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
