Bettie Jane Pittman Singleton, 90, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Corsicana Animal Shelter in Bettie's memory.
Bettie Jane was born on July 30, 1933, in Crosscut, Texas to John and Pearl Pittman. John was an oil field hand and Pearl was a well-known "medicine woman", who would teach her knowledge to new wives and mothers around the community.
Bettie was one of seven children. She grew up on a farm and enjoyed taking care of the animals. She also would help her older siblings with their children by babysitting her nieces and nephews. Especially her time that she spent with niece, Dianna "Dee". Time spent at the creek with her dad was special to her as he would whittle her small items.
At the age of seventeen, she met John Hershel Singleton. He went to Korea in the war effort and upon his return he made Bettie his bride, which was the happiest day of her life. They were married for 63 years until his passing in 2013.
Bettie worked at Oil City Iron Works in Corsicana for 35 years. She was a member of Eureka Methodist Church. She loved to cook, sew, and fish. Bettie was a woman of faith who loved Jesus and her family. Family was her life. She did everything for her family including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In retirement, her days were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite book to read in the bible was the book of Esther.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John; daughter, Janice Singleton Stewart; and all her siblings.
Bettie is survived by son, Bobby Singleton; daughter, Sherri Ross and husband, John Paul; daughter-in law, Ruth Ann Stone; grandsons, Tony Aguado and wife, Jennifer, Eric Singleton and wife, Kasey, and Alton Barak. Granddaughters, Nicole Hill and husband, Joshua, Melissa Wieland and husband, Andrew and Tralena Barak; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bettie's grandsons and great-grandsons.
