Barbara Ann Stewart Obituary

Barbara Ann Stewart, lovingly known as "Bee" to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in the great care of Brookdale Senior Living in Corsicana, Texas. Born on August 1, 1938, in Pearland, Texas, she lived a life full of love, laughter, and kindness. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she found happiness in her family, who were her greatest pride and joy.

Barbara was the daughter of Mildred and Charlie Stewart and was raised in Highlands, Texas. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1956. She began her career as a sales clerk at Town & Country and worked in the office at GE Electric. She earned her secretarial certificate and worked as a personnel secretary at the St. Regis Paper Mill while raising her four children. Later in life, she cherished the opportunity to become a full-time grandmother, devoting herself to caring for and spoiling her seven beloved grandchildren.

She was a true adventurer at heart, always eager to travel and explore. She enjoyed sight-seeing and ventured on many RV road trips across the United States. She loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener and bird watcher, always with insightful bits of information that were both educational and fun to learn. Grannie was the true definition of 'a child at heart' so it's no surprise that her most fun over the years was spent with her grandchildren, whom she adoringly referred to as her 'worthless children', a phrase always delivered in love.

Those who knew Barbara remember her boundless love for children, her infectious happiness, and her ability to turn strangers into lifelong friends. Her warmth and kindness left an enduring mark on everyone she met. She had an unmatched ability to make every child feel special, a sunny disposition that could brighten even the darkest days, and a natural gift for conversation that made anyone feel like family.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mildred Stewart; her son, Scott Courtney, Sr.; her son-in-law, Rusty Salters; her sister, Doris Sanders; her brother, Michael Stewart; and her nephew, Paul O'Banion.

She is survived by her brother, Harry Stewart (Nancy), and sister-in-law, Jackie Stewart. Her loving legacy continues through her daughters, Kathleen Courtney (John Stillwell, Jr. (Gryphon)), Lanette Salters, Melinda Mosley (John), and Dilcia Benoit (Kirk). She was a proud grandmother to Jennifer Magnone (Marc), Jason Logan (Shirin), Laura Logan Mazzu (John), Christopher Salters (Lindsey), Ellie Denbigh (Matt), Scott Earl Courtney, Jr., and Abigail Mosley. Her great-grandchildren, Luca Magnone, Galen Mazzu, Anthony Magnone, Sophie Magnone, Flint Mazzu, Sarah Salters, Shay Salters, Madelyn Denbigh, Opal Mazzu, Anabella Magnone, and Arthur Denbigh, as well as her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will carry on her love and spirit for generations to come.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12th from 9a to 10a at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana, Texas. A graveside funeral service will follow at 2p at Peebles Cemetery in Goodrich, Texas. A memorial will be held at Cedar Silos in Baytown, Texas on March 16th from 12p to 3p. Please wear red in honor of Barbara's wishes for her celebration of life.
