Alvin Richards
Alvin Clovis (Buddy) Richards, of Corsicana, passed away from this world to the next on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019 after a brief battle with numerous illnesses. After an early morning visit with his beloved wife Wanda where he exclaimed "I was waiting to see you!", Buddy peacefully fell to sleep into the arms of the Lord.
Buddy was born Jan. 30, 1948 in Corsicana to his loving parents Barney and Essie Hunter Richards. He grew up in a household with two younger brothers where what you think happened probably did. Lots of mischief and rough housing within the walls of his home and the neighborhood was a normal occurrence. And as expected, Buddy was the ramrod, the protector, and the chief troublemaker of the bunch. The only saving grace were his two cousins (really sisters at heart) that grew up across the street from him with his Grandparents. After finishing his education at Corsicana ISD in the mid 60's, Buddy moved out and started a family and his career. Buddy spent 30 plus years making a living as a butcher at numerous locations in the area including the renowned 3rd Avenue Meat Market here in Corsicana. When not working, Buddy enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, fishing, hustling pool, and playing dominos. Buddy was a long time member at Community Baptist Church in Corsicana, Texas. His other passions included gardening, raising cattle, chickens, and hummingbirds. Only a few years back, you could probably catch him dancing down at the VFW on Friday and Saturday nights! Faith, freedom, football, and family were all important to Buddy. If you were around him for just a minute, it wouldn't take too long for a conversation or argument to strike up about God, Politics, the Corsicana Tigers, or who he was he related to.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Wanda Richards; three sons, Joey Richards and wife Sheila, Chad Richards and wife Teresa, Shane Richards and wife Jennifer; daughters, Tammy French-Hall and husband Dr. Hall, Christa Cobb, Jennifer Tatum; son, Ronny Bearden and wife Melissa all of Corsicana; grandchildren, Brooke Richards, Hannah Basden , Laura Basden, Chesney Richards all of Corsicana, Mattie Richards of Van, Dale Harwell and Gaby, Lacie Oglesby and husband Kenton of Wills Point, Dusty Livingston, Lee Opry, Destiny Tidwell, Dalton Tidwell, Dillon Tidwell, Aubrey Cobb, Cody Bearden, JoJo Bearden, James Bearden all of Corsicana; brothers, Billy Richards and wife Sharon of Corsicana, James Richards and wife Beverly of Maypearl; sisters at heart Jackie Nicholson of Corsicana, Jo Carolyn Lovelady and husband Donald of Gilmer. Buddy also leaves behind an enormous host of loving family of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who will miss him dearly.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents Barney and Essie Hunter Richards, and his grandson and namesake Alvin "Hagen" Richards.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2019 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Memorial Service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019 at Cowboy Church of Corsicana. Burial will follow at Younger Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Richards, Billy Richards Jr., Kristy Dowd, Dale Harwell, John Elrod, Lupe Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Richards, L.D. "Derwood" Richards, David "Punchy" Dycus, James Carver, Dale Lee, Jimmy Whistler, Johnny Richards, Aubrey Cobb and Walter Crockett. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to son in law Dr. Jim Hall for all his loving care. The family is also secure and comforted in knowing that Buddy and Hagen are together again spending time as PawPaw and Grandson.

It's always difficult to lose a good neighbor. I appreciate he and Wanda being a good friend to our family in Navarro County.

Buddy was more than just a cousin to me. We grew up around each other. He was more like a big brother & best friend rolled into one. He would let me tag along with him & his friends often even though he was two years older than me. He was my protector because I had polio & no one would dare mess with me or they would have to deal with him. I will always cherish the memories that I had with Buddy & will miss him dearly.
