Alta Marie Summers, 97, of Temple and formerly of Dawson, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025, in Temple. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 24 Saturday at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with Rev. Brad Brittain officiating. Interment will follow in Dawson Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Monday prior to the services at the funeral home.
Alta was born in Post, Texas and was nicknamed Bobbie by her grandpa. She spent her childhood on a dairy farm in Hale Center, before attending nursing school at SMU in Dallas as part of the last US Army Cadet nurses' program. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1948 and married Norman Ray Summers the same year. They relocated from Dallas to Dawson in 1960. Bobbie worked at a labor and delivery nurse at Navarro Regional Hospital for several years before becoming a school nurse at several rural communities including Hubbard, before finishing her career at Dawson ISD.
She was a life-long Methodist and an active member of First United Methodist Church in Dawson, serving as a Sunday school teacher, assisting with the Lord's Acre and women's ministries. She was an active member of the Dawson Lion's Club, Dawson Bulldog Booster Club and Garden Club.
Bobbie was proceeded in death by her husband of 73 years, Norman in 2019 and her son, Ray in 2005.
She is survived by her daughter Kay Langford and husband, Walter of Temple, two grandsons, Micah Langford of Temple and Aaron Langford and wife, Lindsay of Georgetown, great-grandson, Tyler Langford and wife, Emily of Georgetown.
Memorials may be made to Dawson First United Methodist Church.
