A. Derwood  Penney
A. Derwood "Pop" Penney, 78 was born on Feb. 13, 1941 to Curtis and Harmolena Penney of Corsicana, Texas. He went to be with the Lord on Aug. 10, 2019.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug.14, 2019 at Northside Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Lamb. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Skip Johnson, Matt Podjenski, Brett Doe, Kyle Freeman, Larry Meador, Greg Baumgartner, Roberto Gallegos, Brock Holt and Chris Davis.
Honorary Pallbearers will be life long friend Jimmy Dawson and all current and former Navarro Bulldog Baseball players.
Derwood married Wanda Fitch on June 2, 1962 and they were happily married for 57 years. He loved God, family and baseball. He was a farm parts department manager for over 45 years with J.A. Penney Implement and Vitters Tractor. After retiring, he was a volunteer coach for Navarro Baseball for 16 years. His love for all players was like they were his own. He taught them not only about baseball, but also about becoming young men. He had a strong Christian faith and loved to share with everyone.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Penney; daughters, Annette Hall and husband David, Becky Villa and husband Jose and Kristy Barfknecht; grandchildren, Austin Hall and wife Monica, Alan Vitters and wife Kendle, Corbin Hall, Joey and Jacob Villa and Jaxson and Jared Barfknecht; sister-in-law, Berta McCamey and a numerous nieces and nephews.

What a great mentor friend and family member!! You will be missed greatly by so many!! Thank you for your kind and caring comments and guidance on Skyler’s baseball and his college endeavors. He now will have another angel watching him from above!! God Bless you and your family!!

We lost a good one in Pop. All you had to do was to be around him and he was asking you about you. He always had a listening ear and a big heart. The world will be different just knowing he has left us physically but in our heart we know we will see him again someday. God Bless the Penney family.

Wanda, we will all miss Derwood, was a super friend, we had a lot of good times at the bowling alley, was one of my best team mates, thinking of you and Derwood, will never forget him.
