William Wesley Olsen, Jr. (known by most as "Bill" or "Chief") went to be with our Lord on Tuesday Jan. 17, 2017. Just the day before, he spent time at the ranch he dearly loved.
Bill never met a stranger and undoubtedly made life more fun for all those lucky enough to have known him. He was a proud member of the Corsicana Masonic Lodge No. 174 A.F. and A.M. and had received a pin for 60 years of membership. He also loved his country and would often be seen at the Waffle House or driving around town in his red pickup proudly wearing his "WWII Veteran Hat."
The loss of "Old Man Olsen, First Name Bill" will be felt by everyone that met him over his 95 years. He consumed every moment of life. He was the type of man that cared for everyone, but above all, he loved his family. They just don't make them like Bill anymore.
Bill married the love of his life, Jane Hill, on Feb. 24, 1941, immediately before he went overseas to fight for our country. He proudly served as an infantryman and master sergeant in the United States Army in the South Pacific. Jane waited faithfully for him until he returned, and they were married for almost 64 years.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Hill Olsen; sister, Hazel Olsen Graves and brother, Holman Ole Olsen.
He will live on through the memories of those he leaves behind, including daughters, Pam Olsen Dunn and Becky Olsen Myers and husband, Johnny; grandchildren, Carrie Dunn Kindle, Lawson Dunn and wife, Shannon, Lowell Olsen Dunn, Sarah Beth Myers and fiancé, Shawn Smith, Haley Myers Weiner and husband, Justin; great grandchildren,Victoria Taylor and Mason, Rebecca Kindle, Preston Kindle, Shelton Dunn, Blair Dunn, Rylee Dunn, Wesley Weiner, and Grant Weiner; great-great grandchildren, Maddox Pryor and Madilyn Pryor. Also, devoted companion, Mary Biggers and longtime family friends Tommy Whitman, Jim Whitman and Davey Whitman as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at Oakwood Cemetery with Father Ed Monk officiating.
Memorials may be made to Corsicana Masonic Lodge, Wounded Warriors Project or St. John's Episcopal Church.
