Robert's Story

Robert Gurney 76, former resident of Corsicana, died peacefully on Friday Nov 18, 2016. He was surrounded by family at the home of his eldest daughter in Waverly, IA.

The son of Alexander and Mary Elizabeth Gurney, Robert was born in Sunderland, England December 24, 1939. He lived with four younger brothers and would later serve in the Royal Airforce as a paratrooper. Robert eventually became an engineer and would pursue this career after moving to the United States.

Robert settled in Chicago, IL where he met and married Jacyra "Jackie" Marques on July 18, 1964. The couple were blessed with a loving marriage lasting over 52 years, five children, and eight grandchildren. In that time, Robert and Jackie's life would have them relocate to Fairfield, IA, on to Corsicana, TX, back up to Lake Bluff, IL and eventually Bluffton, SC after Robert retired.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Robert is survived by his wife Jackie Gurney, his daughter Maria and her husband Richard (children Derek and Rachel), his son Robert David Gurney, his daughter Susan and her husband Eric (children Gabrielle and Claire), his daughter Jennifer and her husband Dallas (children D.J. and Walker), his son Peter and his wife Heather (children Aspen and Sienna), his brother Alec and wife Pauline, his brother Colin and wife Pauline, his brother Adrian and wife Lynn, and his brother Steven with wife Yvonne.

A funeral will be held at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church (31 Saint Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909) on Friday February 17th 2017 at 10:30 am.
