Melba Jean Page Winfield passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 in Clifton at the age of 92. She was born Dec. 3, 1924 in to Gordon and Eula Lee Alderman Page. Her family moved to Blooming Grove when she was two. At the age of 12 she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior during a revival service at the First Christian Church. She graduated from Blooming Grove High School and attended one year at Hill Junior College and two years at Texas Women University. She worked at Hillcrest Bank in Dallas when she met Gordon Winfield. They married June 5, 1949. They had two children Janis and Page. The family lived in Irving, Dallas, Plantation Florida, San Mateo California, Granbury and Georgetown. Melba has lived the last two years in Clifton at Sunset Home Lutheran Ministries.
She enjoyed cooking and was famous for her Blueberry Banana pies. She enjoyed spending time with her family and and going to all Texas Air Tours with Gordon in their Cessna. After Gordon's passing Melba participated in Bible studies at Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown, ladies luncheons, folding bulletins and helped assembly braille books of the Bible.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Winfield and son Page Winfield and brother, James Page.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter Janis Parks and husband, Robert of Whitney; daughter-in-law, Cathy Winfield of San Antonio; grandchildren, Clint Parks of Round Rock, Molly Ward and husband Aaron of Dallas; five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister, Elsie Bell of McAllen; Sister-in-law, Monette Johnson of Dallas. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Pastor George Watson of Fundamental Baptist Church of Clifton officiating.
Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blooming Grove. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a ministry or charity of choice.
