Mary Lou York, 88, of Corsicana passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at Heritage Oaks West. Mary Lou was born in Barry to Grover T. Phelps and Lura Mae Phelps on May 28, 1929.
Mary Lou will lovingly be remembered for her sweet spirit, kindness and sacrifices she made to raise her four daughters. She always put their needs first. She will also be remembered for her career in retail in downtown Corsicana. She was a very well known and well respected sales lady, whose career spanned decades working at J.M. Dyer and Co., Cooper and Sons Shoes and Miles Furniture.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, James Phelps, Bertha Minor, Jewel Grimmett, Imogene Curry, Emma Womack, Buddy Farrish, Jewel Wyatt, A.T. Phelps and Vernon Farrish.
She is survived by daughters, Karen Fate and husband Larry of Tool, Karla Allen of Burleson, Kimberly Remonte and husband John of Corsicana and Kelly Culloty and husband Brendan of Corsicana; one sister, Maudine Shelton and husband Orville of Garland; grandchildren, Sara Burke and husband Ronnie of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Mary Longbotham and Andy Jabben of Burleson and William Culloty of Corsicana; and one great-grandson, Maddox Burke of Goldsboro, North Carolina and close niece Sherry Brazell and husband Don. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Ella Mae Robinson of Corsicana and Johnnie Faye Pye and husband Rossi of Fairfield along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Corley Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Cryer Creek Cemetery, FM 1126 North out of Barry, with Rev. Jeffry Hastings officiating.
