Text size

Joy Bernice Coker Grimes Hull, 87, of Corsicana went into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ in her heavenly home Friday, May 12, 2017 at her residence in Corsicana. We rejoice knowing she is walking in the streets of gold with him. She was born Jan. 29, 1930 in Eureka to Lafard G.M. Coker and Nannie Mae Bates Coker. She has three siblings, Junior M. Coker, Arnold Coker and Vivian Coker Jordan. She married Dewey Gilbert Grimes March 25, 1949. They resided in Corsicana where their three children were born.
As a young girl, Bernice worked in the fields with her family pulling cotton, peas, corn, and seasonal fruits. Years later she worked at Tex Sun Glove Factory. She was a devoted Christian teaching her children the importance of the Bible and following Jesus Christ. She was an amazing person helping others, donating her time, and sharing her talents. She was a caregiver for her mothers-in-law, Mattie Lee Gibson Grimes Holley and Eunice Hull along with her mother, Nannie Mae Coker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Dewey Grimes in 1977 and later her second husband, Malcolm Hull in 2014 and brothers, Junior Coker and Arnold Coker.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
She is survived by her sons, Leslie Grimes and Gary Grimes and wife Gail; daughter, Darlene Plemons and husband Johnny; six grandchildren, Sharon Lopez and husband Mark, Michael Grimes and wife Carroll, Dawn Lipsey and husband Edwin, Melissa Grimes, Joni Watson and husband Devlin and Grant Plemons and wife Victoria; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Vivian Coker Jordan and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
