Jimmie's Story

Text size

Jimmie Lou Brown Johnson, 90, of Corsicana went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana. She was born on Oct. 3, 1926, to Gussie Alton (Cap) Brown and Minnie Lucille Grooms Brown in Navarro County.
She faithfully served as a pastor's wife for 33 years. She was a Sunday School teacher and great student of the Bible which she read daily. Over the many years she developed great friendships with church parishioners. Whom she treated as family.
She was an excellent homemaker, and to all who knew her the best cook in the county. She especially loved family get togethers. She cooked Sunday lunches for the entire family every week and made multiple dishes every week careful to include everyone's favorites. She reached out to her entire family on special holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving and made sure that all extended family was invited to her home. She treated her extended family as her very own. The delight of her life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When you look up the definition of mother in the dictionary, there aren't any words, just her picture. If the children and grandchildren could have chosen any mother in the world, she's the one they would have chosen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Rev. B.W. Johnson.
She is survived by son, Jimmy B. Johnson and wife Pat of Corsicana; son, Dr. Gary W. Johnson and wife Barbara of Barry; and a daughter, Betty L. Stokes and husband Ron of Corsicana. She was blessed with granddaughters, Becky Gipson and husband Todd of Carrollton, Melissa Bedard and husband Michael of Barry; grandsons, Jamil Johnson of Blooming Grove and Justin Johnson and wife Marissa of Decatur; great grandchildren, Tanner Bedard, Ben Gipson, Riley Bedard, and Hailey Harth along with a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Calvary Worship Center, 1364 N. Beaton St. with Dr. Gary W. Johnson and the Rev. Michael Bedard officiating. Interment will follow in the Pattison Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jamil Johnson, Justin Johnson, Todd Gipson, Tanner Bedard, Ben Gipson, and Riley Bedard. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of Calvary Worship Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Worship Center, 1364 N. Beaton Street, Corsicana, Texas 75110.
The family extends a special Thanks to the staff at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village, Family First Hospice, and to Dr. Kent E. Rogers for their thoughtful loving care provided.
