Text size

Earl E. Alexander, Sr. went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016. He was born to Ruben and Mattie Alexander on Jan. 23, 1924 in Columbia, Mississippi. He graduated from Hub High School in Marion County, Mississippi.
He met his future wife Esther while traveling on a bus from Mississippi to northern California to check on a job. Esther was traveling from Corsicana to west Texas to visit family. They sat next to each other on the bus during this part of the trip. Earl and Esther later married on Nov. 22, 1952 in Crescent City, California. While there Earl and a close friend, Lloyd Staggs built two adjacent houses and lived in them until Earl and Esther moved to Corsicana in 1957. After arriving in Texas they raised four children, Earl Jr, Ladena, Gloria and John.
Earl went to work for Adam Hats in 1957 as a hat blocker, running steam presses. He retired in 1982 after 25 years. After that he worked with his son-in-law, Neal Baggett at his tree trimming business.
Earl also stayed involved in his children's lives. He assisted coaching little league baseball and was later an executive board member in the Band Boosters. You could usually find him working several Friday and Saturday night football games in the concession stands. He was also an active member at Northside Baptist Church and Memorial Baptist Church singing at every opportunity in the choirs. He was also asked on several occasions to lead music as interim Music Director at both churches. His faith was a key factor in his life. He led his family by example and showed the importance of church to his family. Later in life he and Esther were active members of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
In 2007 and 2008 Earl suffered a couple of strokes which hindered him from being as active as he had been. After he was unable to physically attend church, he would occasionally watch services through the local cable company.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria D. Crawford in 1988 and his wife of 59 years, Esther R. Alexander in 2012.
