Doris I. Meredith, 90, of Dawson, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 in Corsicana.
Doris was born Jan. 11, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska and at the age of two moved to Hazlehurst, Mississippi where she lived through her college years. She then moved to Texas where she met and married James B. Meredith in Fort Worth. Most of her work career was in the oil business and she served as a vice-president at one of the companies where she worked.
She followed her husband with his work career for over 40 years going from Fort Worth, to Irving, Lubbock, Dallas, Denver, Colorado, Franklin, Michigan and finally Plano. In 1999, they settled down at the Eldorado Ranch near Dawson. Doris was a church pianist and started out playing in her home church while in high school, and played in many other churches throughout the years including First United Methodist Church of Dawson where she was a longtime member.
Doris was preceded in death by her mother, Mollie Kinnebrew King and step-father, Everett C. King.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James Meredith of Dawson; son, Tom Meredith and wife Cleo and daughter, Allison of McKinney; daughter, Lea Wolff and husband, Steve and daughter, Lexi of San Antonio and a special cousin, Dorothy Brownlee of Jackson, Mississippi and several other extended family members and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with Rev. Jake Ward officiating.
Interment will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. before the services on Saturday at the funeral home.
