Don T. Slater, 78, of Navarro Mills, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in Corsicana. He was born Nov. 27, 1938 in Dawson to Elvin and Beulah (Copley) Slater. He lived most all his life in the Dawson area and was a graduate of Dawson High School. Don married Mary Ann Toten on July 1, 1967 at a relative's home near Navarro Mills. He was a former longtime employee of the Corsicana Daily Sun where he worked as a press man and as a camera man. Don later restored and sold automobiles, particularly Chevrolet Corvettes and worked with his nephew at Slater's Custom Paint where they did custom motorcycle tank painting. He was a member of Navarro Mills Baptist Church.
Don was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Mary Ann Slater of Navarro Mills; a daughter, Kim Renfro and husband, Bud of Navarro Mills; two grandchildren, Jordan Renfro and Nick Renfro of Navarro Mills; a brother, Ronnie Slater and wife, Mary Evelyn of Navarro Mills and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Wade Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with Rev. Steve Burleson and Rev. Ben Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Dawson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Josh Duke, Bryer Duke, Drew Walter, Ricky French Jr., Mike Slater and Steve Slater.
