Dessie's Story

Dessie Currington Nichols, 86, of Corsicana entered heaven's gates Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017 following a brief illness at Baylor Scott White Hillcrest in Waco.
Dessie was born June 20, 1931 along with her twin brother Delbert in Vanoss, Oklahoma. She was born to M.C. "Red" Currington and Ethel Hunsucker Currington.
Dessie had an unwavering faith in God and was a faithful member of her church, Second Avenue Missionary Baptist. She served for many years as the Sunday school teacher for the Ruth Class. She dearly loved every member of her class and taught until her health would not allow her to continue.
She was a pastor's wife for over 30 years and loved serving God alongside her husband. Dessie was a homemaker most of her adult life. She was a stay at home mom that loved every minute of taking part in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's lives. When her children were in school she delighted in being a room mother and helping with all the class parties. Dessie was known by mostly everyone as "Nana" and the best chocolate pie maker around.
In later years Dessie worked at Cason's Flowers, The Garden Center Florist and at The Texas Employment Commission. She retired to care for her elderly father.
Dessie was proceeded in death by her husband of 45 years, Billy Joe Nichols; parents M.C. "Red" Currington and Ethel Currington; brothers, George Currington and Delbert Currington; sisters, Marie Ross and Rosie Wright and daughter-in-law, Rosanne Nichols.
She is survived by her daughter, Alicia Rogers and husband Ray of Corsicana; son Rick Nichols of Hutto; granddaughters, Brooke Pittman of Lane, Oklahoma, Addie Feemster and husband Michael of Corsicana and Shala Murski of Lakeway; grandson, Kirk Nichols and Kristan of Carrollton, Georgia.; great grandchildren, Ashton, Lacy and Savannah Pittman of Lane, Oklahoma, Noah Nichols of Carrollton, Georgia., Kinley Stephenson of Lakeway, and Maverick Feemster due in December; sisters Doris Spence and Mary Wade both of Palestine; brothers, Kenneth Currington and wife Evelyn of Louisiana, Larry Currington and wife Bonnie of Kentucky., James Currington of LaMarque, and a host of nieces, nephews and many many friends and her church family, along with special friends Elizabeth Lucas, Marilyn Moody, Helen Albritton, Mary Meador and Chloe Curlee-Young.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2017.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017 in Corley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Denny officiating.
Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery, Corsicana.
