Charlie Boyd of Blooming Grove passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the age of 96. He was born March 10, 1921 in Blooming Grove to William Isaac Boyd and Littie Melissa Pullin Boyd. He worked for Dallas Street Car, Candy Company and also worked for Dearborn Heaters. He retired from the Dallas Fire Department in 1973 after serving for 21 years. Charlie was the first shift at Station 36 when it opened. He enjoyed fishing, making pecan pies to give away and mowing his yard.
He was preceded in death by his wife Frances Boyd in 2001; parents and siblings, William Earl (Doodle) Boyd, Victor Boyd, Bob Boyd, Wylie Boyd, Sadie Jones, Ethel (Cute) Boyd, Lila Morse and son Sydney Joel Glossup
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Thompson and son Ronald Glossup; brother, Elmer (Sonny) Boyd and sister, Julia Bibby. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and numerous extended family members.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
A Masonic service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Chaplain Denny Burris of the Dallas Fire Department officiating.
Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Thompson, Vance Thompson, Ryan Glossup, Jake Glossup, Nathen Poindexter and Randy Glossup.
