Wanda Gunn Brown on Feb. 17, 2018 our precious mother Wanda Gunn Brown, age 95 was rewarded her Heavenly Wings. Born on November 25, 1922 in Kosse, Texas to O. B. and Mayme Faust Gunn she was the sister to Billie Kirk, Edrie Anderson, Doris Comer, Louise Wireback , Nadine Gunn, Gaynell Elliott and her brothers C.B. Gunn and Rex Gunn. Mother married at age 17 to Eural S. Brown and they were married 55 years until his death in 1993. Our Mother lived in the Pursley community for many years. She worked on the farm alongside our Daddy helping anyway that she could. She hoed many a cotton row. She always said "The weeds grew faster than the cotton and the rows were so long". Mother was a tough woman that endured and persevered. After being out of school for 27 years she was determined to go LVN Nursing school where she graduated at the top of her class and was so proud. She worked at Navarro Memorial Hospital on the 11 to 7 shift as floor charge nurse on the surgical floor. She was an excellent caring nurse who loved her job. On Sunday mornings she always went to church regardless of how tired. Mothers favorite hobbies were antiquing, talking politics, watching her stock market and tending to her flower garden. Mother loved cooking for her family and church. Mother never had a credit card and said "If you can't afford to buy something then work until you can". She never had a cell phone and the first time she cooked with a Microwave she was scared of the thing. Mother was mad because she had to pay for cable to watch her own TV. Mother always said "You kids were raised a simple country life" Well those were the best years of our life! We never had to lock our screen doors, we slept with the windows open and mother was never worried about putting us on a school bus. She knew we would be safe and good at school. She never witnessed groups of protesters and never worried about shootings at school. We had guns in our home and they were used for recreational shooting and for hunting. Mother took us fishing and took us to the beach. We were taught discipline, respect and love for one another and our neighbors by our mother. Our mother was a devout Christian who loved her Westhill Church of Christ and loved to talk to people about the Bible. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and sister. She had so much fun with her dear sweet friends that she saw throughout her lifetime. Her surviving children are David and Linda Brown, Dianne and Bobby Compton, Donna and Terry Lough and Jerry Dennis Brown all from Corsicana. Her Grandchildren are Jason and Angie Lough of Midland, Rachel and Dean Wilson of Stephenville, TX., Joe Bob and Stephanie Compton of Dawson, John David Compton of Corsicana and Jerod Allen Compton of Corsicana.
