A true man of God, beloved husband, father and friend W.C. "Bill" McCurdy met his Lord face to face on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, as a faithful follower of Christ. He was 75 years old.
Born in Beaumont and raised in Corsicana, Bill entered the world on Dec. 19, 1941, as the son of Carroll "Pinky" McCurdy and Lavoyce Noel Boswell McCurdy. Bill was one of three children, including his brother Ryan McCurdy (now deceased) and his sister Judy McCurdy Willis (and husband Ronny, of Corsicana).
As a boy, Bill loved living outdoors, fishing and hunting (especially doves) near the small family farm in Barry.
Bill graduated from Corsicana High School and attended Navarro College. During his high school years, Bill met Nikki Costlow (McCurdy) and were married on April 22, 1960. From their union came two cherished sons, Scott McCurdy (and wife Carolyn, of Bryan) and Tim McCurdy (and wife Regina, of College Station). As a family man, Bill loved to teach his sons the lessons which he had learned in childhood. Bill was a generous, natural leader at home where over time he became the rock on which they built their faith. Bill helped instill a strong sense of morality and faith in his two sons. Indeed, the values Bill gained from his abiding faith led him to give anyone a chance to believe that the worth of every soul is great in the sight of God.
In addition to providing for his family's spiritual needs, Bill worked hard to secure a solid financial foundation for Nikki and their boys. In 1983, he started his own company (McCurdy Well Services) servicing oil and gas wells in Bryan. Even in his later years, Bill never stopped working and today, Scott and Tim still run the family business. In his time off, Bill loved his role as a doting father and grandfather. He also loved woodworking and golf—skills he taught himself. Throughout his life, Bill was a man who loved his family and the Lord, who touched many lives, personally and professionally and was loved by many in return.
Bill McCurdy leaves behind him a legacy of faith and family, of self-sacrifice and service. Remembering him most now is his sweetheart of nearly 57 years, Nikki, along with his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Ronny Willis, and his sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Carolyn and Tim and Regina. Bill will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Scotty and wife Chelsea and Tara, both of Bryan, and Kalee and Will, both of College Station. He also leaves behind the apple of his eye, great-granddaughter Harper.
Bill was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ryan.
The Life Celebration of Bill McCurdy will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 at Central Baptist Church in Bryan, with a reception immediately following the service.
In lieu of donations, memorial contributions may be directed to Still Creek Ranch or the charity of your choice.
