Volu Rash Slate, 83, of Corsicana passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017 at Navarro Regional Hospital. She was born Dec. 8, 1933 in Eureka to Emmett and Georgia Rash.
Volu was a humble soul and friend to many. She dedicated 46 years of employment at the State National Bank and was the longest tenured employee of Bank One in the State of Texas at that time. Through her time at the bank, she became extremely well known throughout the community. She was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, was active with the choir, assisted on the church finance committee, and served on their outreach program by visiting nursing homes in the area to visit with those who could not attend. She was a selfless and loving mother and a devoted wife. She gave freely to those she could and cared deeply for her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles Slate; her parents, Emmett and Georgia Rash; her siblings, Vermell Rash, Billy "Buddy" Rash, Marie Rash Daniels, Charlie "C.G." Rash, Christine Miller, and Curtis Rash; brother-in-law, Bobby Thompson and sister-in-law, Billie Thompson.
She is survived by her daughter, LuAnn Pelletier; son, Dwane Slate and wife Tammy; brother, Richard Rash and wife Joyce; grandchildren, Chelsea Watts and husband Daniel, Ryan Slate and wife Danielle, Chase Slate and Peyton Slate; great-grandchildren, Olivia Slate and Elijah Watts, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 at Northside Baptist Church with funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Officiating the service will be Dr. Rick Lamb. Interment to follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.
