Text size

Velma Marie Gordon Wilton passed from this life to her eternal home on Thursday, July 6, 2017. Marie, as she preferred to be called, had given her heart to Jesus when she was 13 at the First Baptist Church of Corsicana.
Marie was the daughter and 12th child of May Sue Hanson Gordon and Samuel Oscar Gordon. She grew up in Oak Valley and attended junior high and high school in Corsicana, graduating in 1948. She attended Navarro Jr. College and finished her nurse's training at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
Marie was married to Donald P. Wilton on Oct. 2, 1952 at the First Baptist Church of Corsicana. They had a daughter, Katherine Marie Wilton Akin, and two sons, Donald Edward Wilton and Vernon Franklin Wilton.
She ended her nursing career at Navarro Regional Hospital in 1992 after 18 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald P. Wilton, her daughter Katherine Marie Wilton Akin, her parents and her 11 siblings.
She is survived by her two sons, Edward and Vernon, four granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery, with Rev. Danny Reeves of First Baptist Church officiating. Deacons of First Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
Her family would like to thank First Baptist Church for their many visits, cards and giving her the opportunity to take the Lord's Supper. Also a sincere and never ending gratitude to Mercy Hospice for their wonderful care. We could not have kept her at home without them.
Arrangements by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
