Thomas's Story

Text size

Thomas (Tommy) James Zelman, 58, of Dawson, joined our God in Heaven on Oct. 28, 2017 in Corsicana.
Tommy was born May 15, 1959, to Edmond John Zelman and Mary Ann Bochenek, in Dallas, the youngest of six children.
Tommy graduated in 1977 from Seagoville High School where he was involved in football, baseball, bowling, class council, participated in an ugly man contest, dance-a-thon, bike-a-thon, and was also an usher for the 1976 graduating class.
In 1980, Tommy married his first wife Kay, who later blessed him with two children, Kimberly Kay (Zelman) Bruce and Christopher Scott Zelman. Later to marry his wife, of 26 years, Rhonda Deniese (Lassetter) Zelman, the two said their "I Do's" on June 1, 1991, gaining a bonus son, Jakeb Lloyd Lindsay. Two more children were added to this union, Joshua Kaleb Lindsay and Kassidy Rhyanne Zelman.
Tommy worked hard to provide for his now five children. He was very involved in their activities whether it is Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Venture Scouts, cheerleading, dance, football, softball, baseball, soccer, band, drill team, or one-act-play. Tommy was always there to support his kids, from being the Cub Scout Master, to announcing the football/cheer games, a couple of years he even coached the kids, but his heart was in the stands cheering them on. He worked at North Haven Gardens, Gibson's Garden, and Dal-Tex, where he retired after 30 years of loyalty.
In 2010, Tommy, Rhonda, Joshua, and Kassidy moved to Dawson, where he worked on the farm caring for chickens, cows, dogs, cats, and many other animals. Tommy loved the outdoors, spending many hours on the mower or tractor. He made sure to teach his children about the great outdoors, from pitching a tent, starting a fire, baking in a box, cooking in a dutch oven, using knives to whittle a walking stick, fishing, and many other things they needed to know.
Tommy has many friends that he considered family. All the kids' friends called him Dad, as he was there when they needed him. He loved, protected, and provided for them as if they were his own.
Tommy joins his parents; sister, Carol; aunt Sis. Dennis and many pets including, Shesta, Gennie, Zoey; and an abundance of family/friends in Heaven.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Rhonda Zelman; five children, Kimberly Bruce and husband, Aaron, Jakeb Lindsay and wife, Summer, Christopher Zelman and wife, Jessica, Joshua Lindsay and wife, Brittany, and Kassidy Zelman and boyfriend, Jordan Smith; siblings, John Zelman and wife, Agatha, Mary Cromer, Christine Cox and husband, David, and Catherine Costlow and husband, Ray (Santa;) grandchildren, Brooklynn, Christian (Gadge,) Skylar, Savannah, Kevin, Kinsley, and Jackson; parents-in-law, Gennie and Kenneth Lassetter; many nieces, nephews, brothers/sisters-in-law, many friends, pet kids, and pet grandkids.
