Sandra's Story

Sandra Louise Burnam, 70, of Amarillo, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2016. She was born April 27, 1946 to Faye and Buster Burnam in Hollis, Oklahoma. The family moved to Wisconsin in 1958 where she completed high school education in Iola. Sandra completed a bachelor degree at West Texas State University and her masters at Sam Houston State University.
Sandra's career included parole officer, director of several state schools, and she retired as the Deputy Director of the Texas Youth Commission in 1997. For the next fifteen years, Sandra and friend Pat traveled extensively abroad and across the USA and Canada. Part of the travels involved their new venture into antiques.
Sandra was attended in her battle with cancer by her extended family and a crowd of friends.
She is survived by three brothers, six nieces and nephews and their families. Also surviving is our adopted sister, Pat Tucker, also known as Sandy's Best Friend. 
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
The immediate family wishes to acknowledge the extended group of friends and loved ones who have surrounded Sandy and family through her illness.  
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to New Mexico Christian Children's Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130.
