Sammye  Griffin


Sammye Griffin of Blooming Grove passed from this life Wednesday evening, May 22, 2019 at Navarro Regional Hospital. She was born Feb. 27, 1932 in Blooming Grove to Samuel and Lottie Barham. She was a Den mother in the Cub Scouts for many years with her sons. She was a very good bowler, being apart of several bowling teams and winning many championships. She worked in the nursery at church and helped with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed knitting, computers and watching the birds and she loved her cat, Lucy. Sammye was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and infant son Gary Lee Griffin.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband of 66 years, Gordon Griffin; sons Gordon Griffin, Jr. and Robert Calvin Griffin; daughters-in-law, Debra Lou Griffin and Lisa Griffin; four grandchildren, Brandi, Jayne, Kyle and Erik; seven great grandchildren, Griffin, Kingsley, Dean, Duke, Nathan, Ayden and Emery; her beloved cat Lucy, Also, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Rose Hill Cemetery with Bro. Darren Heil and Bro. Grady Cashion officiating. Pallbearers were Brandi Griffin, Jayne Griffin, Kyle Griffin, Erik Griffin, Allen Fred Barham and Thomas Oliphant.
The family would like to thank the faculty and staff if Navarro Regional Hospital along with New Century Hospice for their loving and excellent care in making Sammye's last days on earth comfortable.
