Ruth Elizabeth "Betty" Moore, 93 of Blooming Grove peacefully passed away at her home Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017. She was born to Ray and Leona Baker in Stanberry, Missouri May 6, 1923. Family and friends were her love and joy. She was a long time member of Westhill Church of Christ.
Ruth was preceded in death by two husbands, Ralph Whitener and Sidney Moore; two children, Don Whitener and Linda Mershawn; sisters, Jean Durnell, Ruby Goodnight and Mary Francis Baker and brother Ray Norris Baker.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Baker and wife Judy; son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Nita Whitener; grandchildren Jon and Sherri Mershawn, Chris and Jerri Whitener, Jimmy Simpson, Haley and Joe Taylor, Amanda and Zack Carver, Pattie Freeman, Hillary and Chris Hutto; great grandchildren, Megan, Zachary, Jarod, William, Toby, Dallas, Payton, Mikey, Matt and Noah and two great-great grandchildren, Rhyker and Bella. Ruth is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017 in the chapel at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with funeral service following at noon with Steve Putman officiating. Interment will follow at Dresden Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jon Mershawn, Chris Whitener, Zack Carver, Chris Hutto, Tommy Jenkins and Jim Bess.
Ruth proudly served in the Army in World War II and requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Meals on Wheels and/or The Food Pantry.
