Roy W. Harris, 91, of Emhouse went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017. He was born in Wood County, Texas Jan. 16, 1926 to John D. and Jewel Harris.
Roy was a World War II veteran. He served in the war from 1943 to 1945 and was stationed in both Italy and North Africa. He loved his country and was a very patriotic man. Roy was a hardworking man all of his life. He enjoyed working in the garden taking care of the fruit trees. He served as a deacon for over 40 years, 20 years of which were at First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove, as well as teaching Sunday school for eight years.
Roy was a kind and gentle man who deeply loved his Lord, his family and will be dearly missed by many people in the community. When life became more challenging in his later years Roy never complained and was grateful for every day the Lord gave him.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife of almost 75 years, Alyne; his daughters Reba Malone and husband, Charles, and Cindy Good; sons Roy Harris, Jr. and wife, Jane, James Harris and wife, Betty and John Harris. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren, brothers; George Harris and Lawrence Harris and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove. The funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove with Bro. Grady Cashion officiating. Interment will follow in Emhouse at Pattison Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his nephew, Marlin Blake, and the deacons of First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove.
