Rebekah's Story

Rebekah Dean Kimbrough, 67, of Streetman, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017, while vacationing in the Dominican Republic.
Becky was born Aug. 11, 1949, in Mesa, Arizona, to parents Tana May Davis and Thomas Dean Davis. Most of her childhood was spent in Lubbock, and the surrounding area, and she attended Monterey High School in Lubbock.
On Aug. 4, 1966, she wed her high school sweetheart, David Russell Kimbrough, and this past August they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. As a young family, Dave and Becky lived in Lubbock then resided briefly in Utah and Fort Worth before planting roots in 1977 in Plano, where they raised their three children David Jr., Robert, and Tammi. Dave and Becky also lived for short times in California and Quebec then moved back to Texas in 1999 and built their dream home on Richland Chambers Lake.
Becky worked in childcare, retail, and real estate while raising her children. Then after relocating to Streetman, she and Dave established Lakeway Construction and began building custom homes. But through the years, her primary "job," which she treasured above all else, was wife, mother, and eventually grandmother-selflessly serving as the caretaker of her family.
She volunteered at her children's schools, served as den mother for David and Robert's cub scout troops, taught children's Sunday School classes, traveled with teens from their church on Bible Bowl competitions across the country, led women's Bible study groups, and mentored younger women at her church. In addition to the love she had for her family, her greatest passion was her faith in Jesus Christ and sharing His love with others, particularly children and other women. Most recently, she was teaching a group of elementary students at New Hope Baptist Church's Wednesday evening service and attending a weekly BSF Bible Study in Fairfield. She enjoyed reading, playing 42 and board games, boating, gardening, and above all else, spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Tana Davis, step-mother Barbara Davis, brother Dennis Davis, and grandson Robert Rex Kimbrough.
She is survived by her husband Dave Kimbrough; children David Kimbrough Jr. of Streetman, Robert and Sandy Kimbrough of Greenville, and Tammi and John Ambrose of Rockwall; six grandchildren Jeremiah, Caydance, Kaylee, and Tara Kimbrough, and Hayden and Liana Ambrose; brothers Gary Davis of Austin and Thomas Davis of Idalou; and numerous siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Becky was dealt many challenges and heartbreaks in her life, and she faced them all with grace and forgiveness. She will be remembered most as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who always put the needs of others first. She had a generous heart and loved people well-living out her faith and demonstrating the love of Christ to others.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at New Hope Baptist Church in Streetman. The family will receive friends at their home immediately following the service. An additional memorial will be held in Lubbock later this summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in Becky's honor to be made to For His Glory Outreach at www.fhghaiti.org/getinvolved or mail a check to For His Glory Outreach P. O. Box 64091, Colorado Springs, CO 80962.
