Peggy's Story

Text size

Peggy Whitney, a long-time resident of Santa Clarita area, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017 at her son's home in Bakersfield.
She was born Nov. 20, 1932 in Kilgore and grew up in Corsicana and Frost. As an adult she went to Golden Oak adult school and received her High School Diploma. While running an in-home day care and later teaching pre-school she attended College of the Canyons part-time seeking an Early Childhood Education Certificate. She was known as Miss Nanni to many SCV children and their parents.
Peggy loved cooking, sewing, quilting, reading, teaching young children, learning about people she met where ever she went, giving and receiving hugs and her 'family.' In a world where family structure may change quickly and frequently, once you were part of her 'family' you stayed part of her 'family.' If wealth is measured in family and people who you love and love you then she was an extremely wealthy woman.
At the time of her passing she lived with her son Chris in Fort Mohave Arizona, and was visiting her son Kenn and family in Bakersfield. She spent many days with her sewing family when she was in Bakersfield or Santa Clarita and found great pleasure in their company and the creative activities they shared.
She was preceded in death by her parents Naomi James Hayes and Ruel Brooks Hayes, brother Ruel Brooks Hayes Jr., and sisters Theresa Meyers, Billie June Jones and Betty Ruth Arnett.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Johnny and Anda Hayes of Dawson; five children daughter and son-in-law Gail and Bob Oliphant of Santa Clarita California, Mark Morgan of Santa Clarita California, son and daughter-in-law Dr. Peter and Kristy Morgan of Houston, son and finance Chris Morgan and Kristi (Lynn) Schilling of Fort Mohave Arizona and son and daughter-in-law Kenn and Debbie Morgan of Bakersfield California. Furthermore, she is survived by daughters of the heart Cheryl Morgan of Beeville, Maggy Morgan of Santa Clarita, California, nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, cousins, friends and family.
California services will be held from 11 a.m. Nov. 11, 2017 at the Mission Family Mortuary in Bakersfield. Reception to follow at 1 p.m. at Senior Pepe's.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 17, 2017 at Frost Cemetery in Frost with reception at Sirloin Stockade in Corsicana immediately after the service.
