Peggy's Story

Peggy Jo Crawford, age 91, of Corsicana, passed on to her eternal reward Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, surrounded by those she cherished the most, her husband of 71 years, her two daughters and their spouses, and her grandchildren. She valiantly fought cancer for three and a half years.
Peggy was born on Dec. 2, 1925 in Corsicana to Frank Hervey and Clover Fay Roberson and lived in Corsicana her entire life. Peggy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed doting on her grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was having her first grandchild born on her birthday. She was the consummate homemaker, seamstress and gardener. She took great pride in her home and kept it and her lawn immaculate. One of her many achievements was winning "Yard of the Month" and "Yard of the Year." Peggy was a life-long member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School there as well as Vacation Bible School. The love of Peggy's life was her husband of 71 years, Neal Crawford. Theirs was a love story that spanned many decades, starting in grade school as childhood sweethearts. Their love endured through World War II when Neal was shipped overseas. Peggy patiently waited for his return while she did her part for the war effort working at Bethlehem Steel. The two were married after the war on Jan. 25, 1946.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Fay Roberson, and her brother, Claude Roberson.
She is survived by her husband, Neal Crawford; daughter Gayla Kallus and husband Bill of Spring; daughter Carla Testa and husband Vincent of Corsicana; grandson Shawn Pringle and wife Amy of Spring; grandson Charlie Pringle and wife Sapna of Spring; granddaughter Valerie Shumate and husband James of Spring; grandson Jamie Testa of Corsicana and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and extended family members.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to New Century Hospice, especially Meagen, Christy, Sandy and Alison for their compassion, care, and constant support over the last month.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Steven Bell officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. immediately before the service. Interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Vincent Testa, Bill Kallus, Shawn Pringle, Charlie Pringle, Bryce Pringle, Scooter Cox, Steve Roberson and Greg Roberson. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
