Nathan Ray Benfield, 92, was born in Jester March 5, 1925 to Richard and Janie Belle Benfield. He passed away Aug. 16, 2017 at the Clyde W. Cosper Veterans Home in Bonham.
Nathan served in the United States Navy at the end of World War II.
He was very proud to have served as a Navy CB at Pearl Harbor. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 33 years of service. In retirement, he was involved in Good Sam's, square dancing and the Volunteer Christian Builders. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Daddy loved to water ski with his daughter and ride horses with his son. He loved horses and worked hard as a boy to buy his first. He loved to ride and did so until he was 87. His family was the most important thing in his life. He will be greatly missed.
He was proceeded in death by his Mother and Father, his older brothers Loyce and Edwin, younger sisters Jeanette, Zonell, and Wanda.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Geline; daughter, Pam Morris; son, Garry Benfield (Suzanne). He deeply loved his grandchildren, Mitzi Thomas, Sandi Hunter, Nathan Benfield and Hannah Estell. His great-grandchildren brought him joy, Taylor Hoskins, Hayden Lacey, Emily Hammer, Kennedy Benfield, Adelynn Estell and Cooper Benfield. He was recently introduced to his great-great-granddaughter Kinsley Dunn. He had a special place in his heart for sister-in-law, Betty Benfield.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2017 at Corley Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017 at Oakwood Cemetery with son, Rev. Garry Benfield and Dr. Danny P. Reeves officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow the service.
Pallbearers will Nathan Benfield, Hayden Lacey, Paul Benfield, Ty Conner, Dale Farmer, and Dennis Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Senior Men's Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Corsicana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missions Fund at First Baptist Church, 510 W. Collin, Corsicana, Texas 75110.
