Mary Frances "Tiny" Burleson, treasured mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 in Corsicana, after a long and very blessed life. She was born April 3, 1920, the seventh of eight children, to Jim and Mary Michaels, Tiny was 97 at the time of her passing.
She grew up in a farming community where they met and she and Nuel married on May 22, 1936. At the time of his passing they were married for 64 years.
Tiny and Nuel worked together and made a comfortable living farming in the Waxahachie area and running a trucking business. Everyone that stopped by their home got to experience her "country cooking" and never left hungry. And as her grandchildren will attest - discussions at the dinner table included her sage views as the "world according to Tiny." She also enjoyed talking on the phone for hours, keeping up with her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, family and friends. Her love of music took her every week to "seniors" where for several hours a band would play old country music of their era.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nuel and siblings, Rastus, Albert, Eula Mae Reed, Marvin, Ivy Lee, Kathie Featherston and Enola Thompson.
She is survived by her son Ronnie Burleson and his wife Judi of League City. She was "Me-Maw" to her grandchildren Alicia Holtzhausen and husband Xavier of Frisco, Garrett Burleson and wife Kim of Houston and Ronni Abernathy of Houston. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Taylor and Sophie Heyen, Marlee and Preslee Abernathy, William, Matthew and David Burleson and Andre Hotlzhausen. Murdell Tucker and Bonnie McNeely were the daughters she never had; her brother's daughters came to live with them for a time, as she and Nuel gave them care, encouragement and love.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 at Corley Funeral Home, 418 North 13th St., in Corsicana.
Her funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Michael G. Tucker and Pastor Steve Burleson officiating.
