Lila Lee Williams McClendon, 94, passed away peacefully in her Kessler Park, Dallas home in the early morning of Tuesday, Sept. 12th after a short but sudden downturn in health, ending fulfilled, healthy and blessed life. Lovingly attended by her children and grandchildren, Lila Lee slipped away quietly only after she allowed time for goodbyes, a gracious lady to the end. She was born June 13, 1923 to Roy and Marianne Williams, named after silent film star Lila Lee, she delighted in movies, music and the colorful history of the era. Lila Lee maintained this interest throughout her life collecting records, magazines, books and antiques, even locating a beautiful bedroom suite belonging to French American operatic soprano and actress, Lily Pons, which is still in the family today.
Graduating from North Dallas High School, Lila Lee was honored to work at the Federal Reserve in Dallas, traveling to New York for training, advancing in her position and proving herself an established working professional.
Courted by the love of her life, Tom McClendon, the two were married on March 3, 1950. Lila Lee devoted herself to family life, moving to El Paso, making it home and eventually helping with the family business, Tom's Auto Supply.
Lila Lee's delight in style and attire re-surfaced as great fun was acquiring wardrobes for Classic Car Club Tours in Tom's restored antique cars. It proved a treat for all of her grand-daughters who enjoyed those special trips to the dress shop with grandmother for the prettiest dress ever. Lila Lee enjoyed cooking, gathering and sharing recipes and creating famous
desserts like cheesecake until Tom's death in October, 2016. Remaining the gracious hostess throughout her life, Lila Lee would not allow a visit without an offer of refreshment.
She is survived by daughter Billinelle Currie; sons Tommy and wife Pat, Olon and wife, Donna, David and wife Teresa and Scott. Lila Lee had 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana.
